At the heart of Xoxoa Chocolates is a dedicated chocolatier, Ebo Nunoo, whose journey from
enthusiast to master craftsman is as rich and complex as the chocolates we create.
Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of cocoa-producing regions in West Africa, the
chocolatier‘s fascination with chocolate began at an early age. This passion flourished into a deep commitment to not only perfecting the art of chocolate-making but also ensuring that each bar tells a story of origins, ethics, and quality. We believe that everything has ann origin story, and our commitment is to highlight the origins of the cocoa we use in our chocolates.
Xoxoa Chocolates, based in Philadelphia, is renowned locally for its artisanal approach. Our chocolatiers meticulously work with importers who source organic cocoa beans from small-scale farms and cooperatives using fair exchange/ equitable trading practices. This dedication ensures that every bean tells a story of their origin and the amazing growers whose work allows the world to enjoy our delicious chocolates.
Out of the love for the uniqueness of the cocoa plant, Xoxoa Chocolates was founded in 2021 as a way to highlight the contribution of marginalized communities who play a crucial role in the production of chocolate. Ebo Nunoo grew up in Ghana, a country that once produced over 50 percent of the world’s cocoa. After moving to the US and having close to three decades successful career in finance, Ebo could not reconcile the exclusion of communities of color in the production of chocolate. Challenged by the misconception that “delicious chocolate" could only be made in Europe, he started Xoxoa Chocolates with a passion for creating high-quality, delicious chocolates that everyone could enjoy. Today, we continue to use only the finest ingredients and traditional techniques to produce our locally beloved bean-to-bar chocolates.
From selecting the perfect cocoa beans to handcrafting each chocolate, our process is meticulous and time-honored bean-to-bar process used by ancient chocolate-making cultures like the Aztecs and Mayans. We believe that attention to detail is what sets us apart and ensures that each piece of chocolate is a work of art and taste.
